Laughing Gas Comedy Improv offers Regis Philbin tribute Aug. 25
Laughing Gas Comedy Improv Theatre Company continues to perform family-friendly shows every weekend at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street. Shows are at 11p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and admission is $10 per person, with no age restriction and no drink minimum.
The troupe celebrates the 75th birthday of Regis Francis Xavier Philbin on Friday, August 25, with a show titled "Who wants to be Regis Philbin?" The evening devoted to morning talk-show splendor features a talk show, a game show and a variety of celebrity impersonations.
The show features a special piece, "The Speeding Life of Regis Philbin," contrasting the pace of the average person's life with that of the ever-busy Philbin.
"Regis seems to be able to do everything, and all at the same time," said cast member Todd Rice. "I don't know how it happened, but he's the male answer to 'The View' somehow."
Audience members will be invited to sign a birthday card that will be sent to Philbin.
Shows run about 90 minutes, and each performance reflects the news and events of the week, with titles and content always subject to change. The topics include politics, popular culture, family values, social issues and more in a series of improvised sketches and musical numbers.
