Laughing Gas Comedy Improv Theatre Company is out to "Improv the Vote" with two-for-one discounts for registered voters throughout the month of October.
The troupe performs every Friday at 11pm at the Main Street Playhouse 6766 Main Street in Miami Lakes. Admission is $12, but for this month there is a special two-for-the-price-of-one offer for those who present their voter registration cards. There is no age minimum and no drink minimum.
While lampooning the political process in its performances, the company hopes to entertain, educate and motivate voters. Shows run about 90 minutes and each performance reflects the news and events of the week, with titles and content always subject to change.
October 15: "How far is he he-Heinz?...or Can Kerry Ketchup?"
October 22: "Presidential Marketing ... or Entertainment and Media Borum 2004."
October 29: "The Presidential Town Hall Rebates ... or Do You Kiss Babies With That Mouth?"
"The great thing about improv is that every show is unique because it is largely based on audience input and the news going on around us," said troupe member Todd Rice. "We'll be able to present shows that are completely up-to-date on the latest events and help to 'Improv the Vote' by dealing with issues important to all of us."
In addition to political topics, the company takes on popular cluture, family values, social issues and more in a series of improvised sketches and musical numbers.
