An "Impy" Award was presented to "Laughing Gas" in Aventura on Dec. 21. I'll explain: Laughing Gas is a hysterical improv troupe that performs every weekend at 11 p.m. in the Miami Lakes Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main St. They charge a $10 admission fee, but there is no age restriction and no drink minimum. This is the Second Annual ''Impy Awards,'' recognizing the best of South Florida's improv theater.
The Miami-Dade County winners of the Impys were: Our own Miami Lakes Laughing Gas for the Best Short Form Improv Troupe 2005 and Impromedy for the Best Sketch Comedy Troupe 2005.
The nominees gathered together with friends at the ImprovMiami.com offices in Aventura. The winners were announced and presented with their awards. In all, there were 10 winners. The sketch show format was added this year and the Best Stand-up Venue was won by the Seminole Paradise Improv in Hollywood.
